What is Townsquared?
Townsquared is an online community designed to help small businesses succeed through local connections and resources.
Who can join Townsquared?
Any owner, manager, or employee of a business can join. However, a business’s profile can only be edited by the owner or manager of a business.
How will Townsquared help my business? What do members use it for?
- Get local news and resources: Community leaders on Townsquared help you stay up to date on the latest neighborhood issues, and business experts help answer your questions on marketing, HR, accounting, IT, and legal topics. Many members use Townsquared to organize around civic and legislative issues.
- Get connected to other businesses: Wish you knew all the other businesses in your neighborhood? We know that between payroll, hiring, running the cash register and making sure the bathroom doesn’t flood, you don’t always have time to connect the way you’d like. On Townsquared, you can quickly message or connect with businesses verified to be in your neighborhood or city. Townsquared makes it easy to form partnerships or share information, without ever leaving your business.
- Neighborhood crime and safety alerts: Dang it. Another shoplifter stole a pair of your best-selling jeans. Just last week, someone tossed a rock through a window down the street. The city is at it again with road closures. And you’re unsure of how best to prepare for that incoming storm. It’s hard to deal with all these challenges as they happen, but now you can get crime and safety alerts on your phone before those shoplifters or winter storms hit your small business.
How much does this all cost?
We get asked this all the time! And the answer has always been: zero dollars, cero pesos, null euros. And the answer will always be: zero dollars, cero pesos, null euros. Townsquared has been and always will be completely free.
How do I join my local online business community?
Who can join Townsquared?
If you are an owner, manager, employee, or enthusiastic mascot of a small business, then this is the place for you! If you are a local government official and interested in helping small businesses with resources on Townsquared, contact us at email@example.com. We’ll grab a coffee together and see if we can set you up.
Why do I have to verify my business and address?
Everybody is annoyed by people trying to sell you stuff or bombarding you with irrelevant information. That’s why we verify all businesses on Townsquared—to make sure you’re connecting only with other trusted businesses in your neighborhood or city. If you have any questions about this process, shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Do I need a business email address to sign up?
Nope! You can sign up with any email address. We ask for a business email address because it’s one way to ensure that only businesses from your neighborhood and city are part of your Townsquared community. BUT, we can also verify you with your business name, address, or some other public information.
I just joined but it says Townsquared isn’t in my neighborhood yet. What gives?
Sorry we aren’t in your neighborhood yet! Email us at email@example.com and we’ll see if we can work together to get your neighborhood online.
What is an invite code, why do I need one, how do I get it, and what is the meaning of life?
We verify all businesses to make sure you’re connecting only with other trusted businesses in your neighborhood and city. No one likes spam! So, as part of the verification process, we send invite codes. To get an invitation, ask a current Townsquared member to send you one via the gold “Invite” button at the top of their Townsquared page. Don’t know anyone on Townsquared yet? No worries—you can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. And the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything is… 42. Obviously.
Oops! When I try to sign up, my business does not appear in the dropdown menu. What the @#%$^$!!
You’re right; that’s annoying. Not to worry. You can join by entering your business name and then using an invitation code, if you have one. If you don’t have an invitation code, email us at email@example.com.
Wait—how much does this cost?
Nothing, nada, zilch, and/or zip. Townsquared has been and will always be completely free.

I love Townsquared! How do I invite other businesses to join?
Aaaw. We love you, too! Let’s grab lunch sometime. To invite other businesses, log into Townsquared and click on the “Invite” button at the top.

How can I change my business address?
Hopefully you’ve moved your business to the beach. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to change your address, and we’ll come sit in the sand with you!
How can I update my password?
Click on your name in the upper right corner, select “Settings” and then select the “Password Reset” tab.
If I now work for another business, how do I change that on Townsquared?
Congrats on the new job! Email us at email@example.com, and we’ll be happy to update that for you.
What do I do when a person no longer works at my business?
If you’d like to delete an employee’s account because that person no longer work with you, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
How can I change my profile information?
On a desktop, click on your picture in the upper right corner and then click in the top “Edit” section of the box. This takes you to (you guessed it!) your Profile page. Each item in your profile has a pencil “edit” icon, so you can update your email address, picture, skills, company, and more. If you’re on an iPhone, you can edit your profile by clicking on “Me” in the footer bar on the lower right. Profile editing on Android coming soon!
What should I do on Townsquared?
Think about the last time you had a question or Googled a topic related to your business. Townsquared is full of small businesses that have had similar questions. Now, they’re chock full of expertise, so start by posting a question you have about your business! You can also share your hard-won wisdom by posting some tips, suggestions, or referrals.
How do I delete my account?
Wait, what?!? We’re breaking up? It was us and not you, wasn’t it? You can email us at email@example.com to delete your account. We’d also appreciate any feedback on what we can do better!
Privacy and security
How do you make sure that only small businesses in my neighborhood or city are on Townsquared? I don’t want to get spammed!
We hate spam, too, and we want to create a community where you’re connecting only to other trusted businesses in your neighborhood and city. We verify all businesses that join the platform through an invitation code or business-email authentication process.
How do I report an inappropriate post?
If there is a post or piece of content that made you arch an eyebrow, such as:
- a fake profile
- disrespectful or abusive speech
- overly promotional or spammy content
… please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will evaluate whether or not to remove the content.
How do I report a member or business in my neighborhood that isn’t real or is being falsely represented?
Email us at email@example.com with the name of the member or business and a link to the profile, along with a brief explanation of your concerns.
