When we were located on 5th and 22nd Street LENSCRAFTERS opened a block away. At first I was upset and shaken up. After a few weeks I saw that our gross was slowly increasing and we were getting patients coming in who had a bad experience there and wanted better service and quality for their eyewear. Funny enough, the referrals were also coming to us from their staff who knew that we could produce and deliver goods that they could not match.
We moved to Madison and 5th and coincidentally, WARBY PARKER was launched online and again, I was shaken up. BUT along with their massive success I noticed that we were being found by WP consumers who were looking for help with their purchase, better service & product and most importantly a more experienced and expert optician.
Their fits were off, their optics limited and iffy and for a small percentage of people they were just plain unhappy with the overall results of their WP purchase (no surprise to me). I was once again seeing an increase in business from this throw off.
So, when people ask me (which they do all the time) 'Am I scared of Warby Parker'? No, I am not. My primary responsibility as a business owner is to bring bodies into my shop. WP helps me to do this and I am grateful!
