Chat apps are becoming more popular in business environments because they??re quicker and more efficient to use than email. I use different apps to communicate with my out-of-town clients, Skype, Google Hangouts, Facetime and WhatsApp are my favorites. There have been several desktop apps in the past that have acted as wrappers for the browser plugins, such as ChitChat for Mac OS X. But this is the first time that Facebook-owned WhatsApp is providing its own native desktop solution. Though it??s the biggest messaging application in the world with more than 1 billion active users, WhatsApp has for years lived primarily on mobile phones. WhatsApp released the desktop launch in a blog post Wednesday: http://bit.ly/Whatsappdesktoplaunch WhatsApp??s entrance onto the desktops of millions of its users could pose a competitive threat for other messaging apps that have done well on desktop till now, such as Slack.
