Pitch Black is just one part of the “SOUL District“—a physical and virtual collective—promoting initiatives, programs, and spaces that bolster the economic opportunity and well-being of Portland’s African-American community. The SOUL District is a beacon of pride, possibility, and prosperity for the African-American community in the Portland Metro area, and Pitch Black is just one of the many community empowerment programs of the District.
The SOUL District focuses on commercial revitalization and the showcasing of black businesses. Pitch Black is the SOUL District’s vehicle for matching African-American entrepreneurs with the capital to succeed. In 2016, the gathering boasted 220 attendees, ten pitches, and raised $12,000 for the winners. The event gives African-American startup entrepreneurs a platform to connect with the region’s growing startup ecosystem.
Townsquared looks forward to our continued partnership with SOUL District’s program and Portland’s African-American entrepreneurial community.
